Church as Family
“Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible - the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family. ”
~ Virginia Satir
ATmosphere Here
Well into the night, the sound of praise is heard softly. It becons to the city, "come enjoy kind company here." A librarian is on call there to watch for any in need. In quiet times, when all other activities slow or stop, he reads, he types, he prays.
Day hours are more active there. When nights are busy it is either the musicians or the students and writers who rarely sleep. It's not just the coffee. They love the word of the Lord too much, and the fellowship of believers, to want to leave.
By day the rooms fill up with teachers, preachers and leaders of a multitude of ministries. Many continue their recording projects, their writing, their research. A team of five seminarians rotates the library duty, making sure a counselor is always available and that the books are safely kept inside for others to enjoy.
A family gathers to memorialize a loved one recently passed away. A couple comes to plan a wedding ceremony. A recovery group meets regularly. Their "higher power" is Jesus. Several of the computers along the south wall are in use. A few others are chatting in what looks like a living room. The praise music is piped in softly. A poster describing a woman in crisis provides a phone number. Victims of domestic violence are directed to safety. Pregnancy tests are made available by a team of volunteers and medical professionals.
You can sense the love. What services do you envision? Ask the Lord to reveal to you what He wants for the All Hours Church facility. It is not any one function that makes it what it is. It is the movement of the Spirit of God. We are family here. We extend your congregation over to this place and this place over to your congregation. We are many. We are one. Thank you for being attentive to the Word of the Lord.
